OVERVIEW
Boasting an impressive tracklist of 45 songs, Eureka Seven’s first soundtrack packs as much of a punch as the series which spawned it. Sato Naoki lays down a solid platform of instrumental pieces for artists like Izawa Asami and FLOW to launch a nice variety of opening and ending songs from. This soundtrack flows like the perfect wave of trapar, pulling off a cutback drop turn of musical precision.
The plethora of songs in E7’s first soundtrack is both a plus and a minus. I have chosen, in my opinion, the top 5 songs showcased on this CD. However, I urge you to listen to all 45 songs yourself. This soundtrack is too good to avoid.
THE GOOD
DAYS
They say the first opening sequence in an anime series is usually the best, and “DAYS” has the honor of proving this stereotype right. Performed by the talented Japanese band FLOW, “DAYS” gets Eureka Seven’s first soundtrack going in the right direction. The drum background is marvelous on its own, and blending it with FLOW’s gifted vocalists turns this song into one of the best.
Secret Base
This song is 1 minute and 36 seconds of bliss. “Secret Base” is by far my favorite song on E7’s first soundtrack. Sung by the gifted Kozue Takada, “Secret Base” masters sound waves like Holland masters the trapar waves. A lovable tempo keeps Kozue’s fluid voice bouncing along and full of emotion. A simplistic background air completes this perfect picture.
Young Boy’s Heart
Is it jazz or is it rap? Or both! Home Made Kozuko delivers this fast-moving opening song built right to the Eureka Seven specs. “Young Boy’s Heart” starts out with a jazz beat, trumpets included, then quickly the singing of Home Made Kozuko’s vocalist kicks in. With jazz in the background, they spit out a fast rap-like session. This combination works surprisingly well, leaving E7 batting 1.000 for opening ballads so far.
Pathetic
Sato Naoki is a man after my own heart. As I’m a sucker for the violin, “Pathetic” was a sure bet to win me over, but it does so for good reason. One of the darker songs gracing this soundtrack, the stringed instruments, featuring a well-played violin, are brought in to richly spread the theme portrayed by the title and stir emotions. “Pathetic” is a very strong piece of music, right up through the violin finale.
Fly Away
“Fly Away” embodies the feel of Eureka Seven, which makes it befitting the honorable position of an ending song. With fluid lyrics sung by Izawa Asami, “Fly Away” springs to life with a jazzy wave of drum beats and trumpet notes. This song gets your toes tapping and head swaying.
