Route 69

Title: Route 69
Genre: Action/Drama
Format: 1 volume
Mangaka: Tsutomu Takahashi

Synopsis: It is said that God chooses one day of a mans life to be his turning point. It is also said that if such day is one day before your birthday death will walk you to the grave. But if you manage to overcome such day, your life will be full of roses. Said day is today for Sheela and Sai and they want to live the rest of their lives full of roses, no matter what nor who.

Art: Dark and fleunt.
Plot: Confusing, but interesting.
Violence: Graphical, psychological and any other type that you can think of.

A twisted and sick love story by Tsutomu Takahashi (Alive, Blue Heaven) with his trademark art and violence that rapes your eyes with out knocking at your eyelids. The violence is not just graphical, but the attitude Sai presents is what makes me dare label this manga as violent. With two main characters that are complete opposites it is easy to detect the high and lows of each character.

Route 69 might not be to your likeness if you want a large cast of fully developed characters with a nice or unpleasant past to read about. While there is some background to the relationship Sai and Sheela had in the past, there is nothing more than a few references and a few lines of dialog dedicated to it. Beyond this, there is no more background for any character, and the development is completely inexistent for each character, but as a couple they do present some development, but, again, don’t expect anything to quench this thirst for development that you will feel.

If you are familiar with Takahashi’s art then you will know that this title will look as the rest of his works; dark, atmospheric, filled with detail and with an unbeatable ability to make facial expressions real. If you aren’t familiar with Takahashi’s art style, then I just told you what to expect of it.

If you are up for a nice, twisted love story then start flipping the pages on this one. But if you are one of those that like love stories that have background, development and aren’t looking for something wicked, then I suggest you look somewhere else.
