Mnemosyne
« on: February 10, 2008, 05:47:11 AM »
Finally, the much awaited anime debuts... Episode 01:

I honestly can't make out much about where this OVA (I think it's an OVA) is heading, but I don't think it's going the right direction. However, it's not hesitating to show bewbs, butts and sexybacks. I mean, GOD Rin's hawt! Plus...

Spoiler for Hiden:
The defining moment of the episode so far:

*not exactly the one I intended to show if you know what I mean*

Wow, I mean, ow. My pleasure turns to pain on the piercings.

I'm sticking to this title... but only for Rin and Rin only for now.

Interesting.  This show manages to be cool, sexy and disturbing in about that order.  From the looks of it, this show is going the style over substance route, hey, they seem to be doing a good job at it.  I've not not used my eyebrows this much since Speed Grapher.

I recommend Mobile Suit, RX-0 and Unicorn from the Unicorn OST.

This is the first anime where I actually felt some cringes, despite the fact that I have seen animes like Shirgurui that can usually make people disgusted.  But, I have to say, I like the artwork thus far.  I actually like the characters and how they focused on them a bit.  Plus, the action is very well done.  I have to say, I am totally onboard with this OVA and I have not felt this much excitement since Macross F 1rst episode.

But, this episode was interesting from start to finish and I hope that the staff keeps it up.  I do want to know more about Apos and how these girls have their "immortality" and such.  Good thing, the OVA episodes are 45 minutes each, which should leave plenty of time to do a lot of good in six episodes.

Now this is an OVA I can get behind.

Mnemosyne's first episode was really interesting: blood, sex, alchohol, fighting, zombies, S&M, guns, Yakuza and even a "detective cat gag."

The animation was really crisp for all the fight scenes and the in between was equally interesting. I kind of worry that some people will look at this as a Baccano! rip-off, with the whole immortality angle. However, it definitely feels like its own show.

The wait is already killing me, I want more!
I fell off the wagon and now I can't stop.

Ep 1

Holy crap, that sucked serious balls.  I can't remember the last time I saw an anime this mindless.  Good for fappin', that's all this is good for.  Good for fappin.

Ep 1:

I agree with Sorrow-kun, though I wouldn't say it "sucked".  There was definately some fun to be had in the "holy crap" kind of way.  I had several problems with the first episode, and you know what that means... BULLET POINTS!!! =D

  • Why is it that in every anime where someone is immortal, they always get thrashed, trashed, mutiliated, minced, impaled, gutted, decapitated, dismembered, and in all other ways experience gory, painful, torturous moments that would kill anybody else three times over?  Oh, and in one particular case, also get sexually abused in a fashion that can only be described as "guro".  But don't worry about that last one, its "AWWWWWWWWWWRIGHT."
  • Worse, why is it every immortal person in anime tries to throw in some half cocked philosophy about humans and mortality.  I realize they have an unique view on the subject, but just once I'd like to see an immortal person not give a shit that humans are eternally trying to beat the sands of time.  Pretentuous?  You bet it is.
  • Requisite loli who's "older then she looks".  Yeah thanks, Japan.
  • Pointless period piece.  1990?  Really?  I grew up during the '80s and '90s and though I'm sure Japan had a different point of view on the decade, it wasn't really defined by anything in particular was it?  Japan's economic boom, I suppose.  But what, exactly, is the point of that backdrop?
  • The director needs direction.  This story was told in a disjointed way.  One minute they're somewhere, the next minute they're where they should be.  It happened more then once.  Way too much jumping around and putting things together without thinking about it.  The word I'm looking for is "unsmooth".
  • Talk about a new way to create zombies, but... ****ing ZOMBIES?  We were having a good time with Psycho Queen of the Undead there and while the ironic death (Brains!) was appreciated, getting rid of her so quickly I didn't like.  Why is it that interesting and twisted villains have to bite it early?  I'm kinda curious what other kinds of absurd torture she can come up with in revenge rather then just personal pleasure.  Meh, whatever.
What I did like:

  • 45 minutes.  I appreciate that.  Too often we get 24 minute long shows that are actually 21 minutes thanks to intros and exits.  Giving us a standad hour long show allows for more to be told.  But like I said above, they did a lot within that 45 minutes.  Too much.
Not really sure what to think of it.  I'll probably keep watching it for the winces and the lulz, but I'm not expecting this to be mind blowing after the first episode.
I'm just like you, only smarter™.

Why not just make it porn and get it over with?  I could seriously enjoy this as porn.  I don't know what else to say about it except... where's Maeno-kun get that white streak in his hair that makes him look like Scott Bakula, circa Season 5 of Quantum Leap?

Your hair would start going white too if you worked for a pair of Vodka-like-water drinkers.

Mnemosyne reminds me a lot of Kite, action scenes between sudo-intelligent dialect/plot between sex scene between action scenes between sex scenes.

Episode 2 wasn't as good as Episode 1; the action wasn't as well done and the story just got more confusing. Yes, a lot is explained (time spores, immortal females and mortal males, etc.) yet it wasn't explained well enough and just left more question.

Who the hell is this Apos and where can I buy his chess set?
I fell off the wagon and now I can't stop.

As of right now, I fully agree with TIF. This show hasn't really shown anything really groundbreaking in terms of plot, but it's just boobtastic enough to keep watching. Would be at least fappable if they showed the good stuff, but as it stands, it's just a nicely-animated cocktease. :|

Ep 2

Oh God, LOL!  That was hilarious!  Who writes this shit?

So the immortal females are completely compelled to have sex with the angelic males who have a very limited lifespan and are out to kill them.  Bravo.  Someone give a prize to whoever came up with that one.

I'm with TIF, they should just make this a hentai already.

NO!

They should not be hentai! Hentai anime are overrated and anti-climatic! Me wants to have more cocktease and creative pr0n!
