Neither. Classical.

If you must know between the two, rap. However, not just any rap, good rap, which I hard to find.

I really do love rock, but mostly the rock I like isn't quite the kind you are asking for, eh?

Rap for me. A good rap song is classic. Like "Work It" aka the greatest rap song ever.

Rock if I want to scream my lungs out and take my body rocking with that soaring music
Rap if in places like clubs where people just 'dance' under flashing lights. Which I don't like much anyway. Most raps just suck, if someone locked me in a room playing that 1004 different nigga music I'd lose my sanity. I think Enimem is ok though.

Genre debate.  Dependent on taste.  Both genre have their share of crap and gold.

Ask me this question 12 months ago and I'd have said "rock" unquestionably.  Recently I've come to realize that it's just mainstream rap that's crap, and some of the underground stuff is really good.  Same can be said about most music, though.

Rock.  I didn't even have to think about that.  I like some rap, but most of it makes my ears bleed.

Ditto what the Bear said.  There is some rap I'll tolerate, but I'll usually only tolerate it for a few minutes or so.

Rock, on the other hand... as long as it's not crappy rock, I could listen to it all day.

Rock, definitely. I don't think I've ever listened to a rap song I've liked. Ever.

But that's just me.

Tyr: Tunak Tunak Tun!

Frankly, I'd floss with Trump's pubic hair before I voted rap over rock in any survey. If my answer isn't clearly specified (as I may or may not have flossed with Trumpubes), I would rather listen to rock any day of the week.

However, VNV Nation > everything.

QFT.

Rock over rap, though both have their ups and downs. I've been more into industrial lately, though.

Amen!

Metal, Classical, and Rock are the only kinds of music I will listen to. Old school HIP HOP is tollerable, but for the most part, not a chance.

I still don't quite understand. Rock vs rap? Two totally different styles of music.

There are as many sucky rock artists are their are rap artists. Want good rap, try some folks such as Kanye West, Common, Lauren Hill, Missy Elliott, Nas, Kelis, and a few more. That cellphone-blingey music is sh!t, but I don't classify it as rap.

It's just cellphone-blingey music. :3

I know some awesome rock bands just as I know awesome rap artists. And there are even more crappy ones for both genres. Both applies to any genre as well.

And I'm absolutely with Ariani as far as apples v oranges is concerned.

I like the best of both worlds, with a heavier bias towards rock and metal. To be fair, though, wouldn't it be better to compare individual artists rather than comparing a genre as a whole to another? I mean, there are some very good and creative rappers like there are very good and creative rock musicians. On the flip side, there are also horrible artists that are only popular because of their support staff and innuendo-driven or melancholic lyrics. Essentially, I think that both worlds have their highs and lows... although I'd would have to say rap has more lows than anything since it's so mainstream and muddled down right now...

Counter argument: Kanye West. Because you know, Kanye West sucks n' shit. I do have a soft spot for T-Pain though, don't ask why.

Also, does rock encompass metal because I love me some scandinavian power metal.

Eh, Stronger's not bad, but for the most part I agree about Kanye sucking.  I used to like Gold Digger, but it got old fast.  His new shit is just that...  Shit.

i like rock more not because its in any respect "better" than rap, but because it has a much longer time to dovelope and perfect. rap is still relatively new kind of music, i know hip hop in itself has been around for quite a while... since about the 1970's but it hasent been since the '80s that rap has gained any real recognition. rock on the other hand has been around for centuries (depending on who you ask). it has been through phases as the times change, grunge, classical, metal (i consider it rock to some respect), hard rock, post-grunge, punk, the list goes on and on, while on the other had rap has only a few designated subgenres, it has hip hop, beatbox etc. now while there are surely a few of these only a few artists have really been able to mature the genre or add any original sound to it. rock has a wide distinguished range of genre's and beyond that each one has at least several mainstream or otherwise well known bands that have taken the genre to its peak... you've got genesis, dire straights, creed, the eagles, pink fliod well know guitarists like rory ghallager, joe satriani, vinnie moore, jimi hendrix, eric clapton, etc... theres just so much to pick from, and while you do have plenty of "rap" choices to choose from you dont have as many or as wide a range of talent.
meh im to lazy for a real sig so ill just link my devART XD

i VOTE ROCK, lyrics are usually better and I can understand what the band is saying and it doesn't sound like someones shouting random words really fast. Plus rap has a beat. One beat that is usually repeated in different songs. While rock has a change in tones, beats, intruments, and other more delightful sounds.
