Locked threads = pointless.
« on: December 15, 2006, 06:01:00 PM »
First "Moar Girls" and now "Vote 4 Me".  Since all the regular posters here have mod powers except for maybe 2-3 of us, I'm wondering what is the point to locking in the first place?  I don't like being left out if you all are going to carry on the convo/jokes anyway.  I think until the forum is large enough for it to matter, you guys should let us other 2-3 peons join in the fun too.  :c

Especially when it's the only activity around here as well.

Yes, it's annoying. Try to be less like the mods at AA.

EDIT: Also, this happened at the AS boards as well; threads where people were trying to have fun were locked for being "spammy" when that was the only activity going on. Nobody is going to complain about spam when the forum is this new, and it's not like it's happening on an annoyingly consistent basis.

EDIT 2: Hot damn, I'm a mod. Oh well, same point still stands.

I'd agree with the two commoners. NHRV doesn't have the user base big enough to lock threads yet. Get 100 members then go ass.

/EDIT

Active Members that is.
I fell off the wagon and now I can't stop.

It does sort of suck when the only non-Admin posts are locked. >__>

Active members are hard to come by these days, sadly.

I didn't get why the "Maor girls" thread was locked, but the "Vote 4 me" thread was really stupid.  Spammy threads are fine... and if anything we probably need them, but stupid threads are a different matter.

Edit:  Anyway, point taken.  There'll be less locked threads in the future.

To me, the real issue here is the purpose of locking a thread. The community here is still very small (perhaps because it's just a year old), so technically mod power shouldn't come into play so often. I too don't see the point to locking the "Moar Girls" thread because it doesn't annoy anyone here, did it?

I thought threads are locked when it gets spammy (I mean in a pointless way that it's there only to grab people's attention), it gets too vulgar or it's being done to death already, such as an Inuyasha/DBZ/Naruto/Bleach thread.

Plus, if we will be seeing threads getting locked often, we're not getting new members. And that's every forum's worst nightmare.

I don't blame 7 for closing moar gurls thread after seeing me turn transexual all of a sudden. Mental image must've been too strong.

I basically agree with AC on this one. Its not a very good sight for newbies, if all they see is locked threads. Might make them think the mods are a tad too strict. And get turned away.

I'm not sure how seeing two locked threads out of dozens is going to scare away newbies.  That being said, I didn't expect that anyone would care when I locked the "moar girls" thread, because I didn't see a point anywhere in it.

I guess the people have spoken.  No more locking of "fun" threads for me.

If someone wants to re-open "moar girls" I don't have a problem with it.

Not to mention the trauma I went through after witnessing that...

Stupid threads may be a different matter, but if a mod actually thinks one needs to be closed, then keep it so.

I didn't mean in this situation. I know 2 locked threads doesn't scare away newbies, I meant if most of the threads were locked, it would scare them away

Screw the newbies, this isn't about them.  It's about me!  (And I guess Complex or whoever else doesn't have mod powers).  :V

Very good AC.

The point is who is actually locked from posting?  If the annoying/pointless/spammy posts are, in the first place, coming from the mods themselves, tell me what is the point of locking?  They're still able to post and it's really no harm no foul allowing the rest of the SMALL community to share in the stupidity.

Let's use our thinking caps, Okay?

nah I don't want mod powers. If we all start having one, then every new member that start joining will start feeling left out unless they are given mod powers...until every every members practically become moderators. Of course, that's assuming there will be new non-staff members *fufufufufu*
Simply stop either abusing your powers and posting in a thread that is locked for a reason, or stop pointlessly locking a thread to allow only the abusers come in and wreck a havoc mmmk?
End transmission from soon to be the commoner.

Abusing power is the best part of having power.
