The J-Music Recommendation Thread
« on: August 24, 2006, 03:17:50 PM »
Yeah, I figured this section needed something new. Point? Recommend artist here, like if anyone is looking. I've found these threads helpful for the most part.

So, to kick things off, I'm looking for a new Japanese group/solo artist to get into.
What do I like? Well, a lot of things. Currently, I'm into glam rock and techno. Dance music is always great too. I'm not looking for any gender specifically...

Do you guys know of anyone? Thanks.uhh

As do I, my friend!

Just to possibly make the search easier, the following artists are some I'm currently into a lot:
Goldfrapp, Madonna (as always), Imogen Heap, The Flaming Lips

And so the list goes on.

I'd have to say, I'm deeply in love with that new Rin song, "Anti Hero". Possibly because Lisa Loeb is in it... But, what can I say? That's right, nothing. Amen.

Well... damn.

As the resident music reviewer, I really feel like I need to be the one to recommend something.

But I just don't listen to dance music, not even Japanese dance music.

I guess that means I need to expand my horizons.

I'm really into trip hop at the moment...but I don't know any Japanese trip hop groups. XM Radio has its limits. Anyways, I don't think there is much of a distinct difference between asian trip hop and european trip hop.

I had a moment where I was really into trip hop; I think it was something Bjork was doing at the moment.

Anyway, I tried Wiki, like Tama-sama (heh) suggested, and I found a neat page:
It can be used as a guide, sort of. I've been weaving thru the pages, finding some interesting things.

And, of course dheu-sama, it's always great to expand interests.
Lemme know if you need any recommendations. I know Madge is a no-go. :]

I think the band Santara(not to be confused with Santana) is just too good to be ignored. Santara sang the ending theme for Kemonozume and you'd be shocked knowing what the vocalist's gender is D:after listening to that song...the he's a she!!! and that's the band's only drawback: the singer sounds too much of a guy with a nasal voice. Otherwise, Santara is one of Japan's glaringly gifted musicians...

Tokyo Jihen and Shiina Ringo.

There are quite a few decent jazz fusion bands.  Soil & Pimp Sessions, Casiopea, are some recent ones.

Could someone please recommend me some moe/saccharine J-Pop along the lines of the 2nd and 3rd Bakemonogatari OP?
Something that's not quite as extreme as MOSAIC.WAV.
If so: Thank you.
