Ai Yazawa, Anyone?
« on: July 01, 2006, 06:23:13 PM »
AS you can possibly tell, I'm a Yazawa-nut.

My current obsession is NaNa/Nana/NANA (however it's written). I've been shamelessy watching the fan-subs for some time now... T_T But, the manga is a pure masterpiece. The romance and the comedy work together to create a ground-breaking plot. Parakiss is also a great manga, primarily hooked by my undying love of fashion.

Anyone else enjoy any of these/any other of Yazawa-sama's classic creations?

No, not really.  I don't read much manga in general, but I allowed myself to get caught up in the hype (from an obscure corner of the internet) surrounding the Paradise Kiss anime, and for it I was very, very disappointed.

I'm not a big shoujo fan, but I've read about 2 volumes of NANA, which I enjoyed.  I really didn't like ParaKiss too much though.  The subject matter didn't really appeal to me.  I'm not too into fashion really.

I've been enjoying the NANA manga and anime though.  The anime had a bit of a rocky start, but it's been doing pretty well lately.

I liked ParaKiss, but I didn't like how it ended (not the exact ending, but the fact that it felt WAY too rushed at the end, like they shoved a whole bunch of story into one chapter).

I haven't read any of her other words, unfortunately.

Glad to hear those who've seen/read Nana enjoyed it. XD I'm addicted.

As for the Parakiss anime... Beautiful, but to short. (I agree with you, dheu, it was entirely crammed)

I've read Gokinjo Monogatari, Last Quarter/Kagen no Tsuki, Tenshi Nanka ja Nai, Paradise Kiss and I follow Nana religiously. No, I'm not an Ai Yazawa fan at all... >_>;

My favorite so far is Nana, even with the very wtf events taking place in volume 16 and all. I loved ParaKiss but wished that more pages were dedicated to Arashi, Miwako and Isabella, the real stars of the series in my eyes; Gokinjo Monogatari and Tenshi Nanka ja Nai were good, fun shoujo series but nothing ground-breaking. Last Quarter is a short but very impressive (3 volumes long) series, and my second favorite from her.

The ParaKiss anime was quite good, except for that absurdly crammed last episode, and the Nana anime despite its flashback flood and 2 recap episodes so far is doing a marvelous job adapting the manga. I hope it keeps that way too.

Haven't read any of her manga but I have watched Parakiss and Nana. Parakiss was good, just not as brilliant as some fans hyped it up to be. Nana on the other hand, is amazing. I wouldn't give it 10 like Shadowmage (sometimes too emo for my liking) but definitely a 9/10 material.

edit: [just noticed the date on the posts...]

Yeah, I'm guessing judbolask is just another in a long line of very confusing and non productive bots.
