I'll try to make the June 22nd concert. If I made the Roots @ Radio City Music Hall, then this one should be cake.

HOWEVER, they are touring MY FOOT? Ugh. I do NOT like that album very much.

I hate both of you...

Stupid tour.  The closest place is Hollywood and that's some 8 hours away.

Just checked the tour schedule again, and apparently they're coming to SF, so me and a few friends will be going there.  Fun times.

Edit-  Changed the name of the thread, so people will know what to expect before clicking.

Please take lots of pictures (with a digital camera) if possible! I don't think I'm going, I'm dead poor.

:/

That sucks.  I got my tickets and am all ready and awaiting the 28th.

Maybe you can catch them next time they come to the US.  I'll be sure to at least share some pictures...  maybe.

Just drove back from San Francisco.  Great show.  The openers were pretty lame, but the Pillows themselves were awesome.

I'll write up something longer and fancier when I've had some sleep.

I've decided to write this up a bit like a music review.  Well, using the same format anyways.

The Bad[/u]

The Price.
The Tickets weren't that bad: about $20 a pop, but all the expenses, such as gas, bridge tolls, parking tickets, merchandise, and food, added up to an enourmous $126.  The parking ticket is what really got me though.

The Trip
Because most of my friends were either lazy or had no car, I was forced to make the 90 mile trip.  After all was said and done I probably drove about 200 miles by the end of the day.  It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't any fun either.

The Venue

Slim's was lame.  It wass small, cramped, and hot.  The rules made for a fairly boring crowd.  There was no moshing, so the most anybody in the crowd did was raise their hands in the air and jump a bit.  Even still, there wasn't much of that either.

The Openers
Finally onto the actual show.

The first band to play was Lemon Drop Kick.  The intstrumentals were decent, but unfortunately the vocalist was too quiet.  She wasn't quite able to make herself heard over the rest of the band.

The next band was a combination of two JRock cover bands called B.E.N.O.M..  They were fairly good, but unfortunately the mic kept cutting out on one of their singers.  Whenever it did go out you could see him trying to screamloud enough so people could hear, but it wasn't enough.  He definitely gets points for trying though.

The last opener, Secretsecret, was terrible.  There's no two ways about it.  The best I could describe would be bad emo poetry sung to slow techno.  The real weird thing is their style was like no one else's there, so not many people in the audience enjoyed their music, and many were pleased when they left the stage.

All together, the openers averaged out to about a D+.  Two bands were ok, and one was terrible.

The Good[/u]

The Pillows
Wow.

So freaking electric.  These guys were way better live than their recordings.  Sawao was amazing up their.  His charisma alone made up for the openers who at this point seemed to be up there only to make the Pillows sound better.

"Out of all the bands in the world to listen to today, you chose us...

You have good taste!" - Sawao.

Yes, yes, I believe we do.  Their was a good mix of FLCL and My Foot songs.  The FLCL songs were obviously there because most of the people there, including myself, were intruduced to their music through FLCL, and the My Foot songs, because well, they were touring to promote their My Foot album.

Nearing the end of the show Sawao asked the crowd, "You like Furi Kuri?"

"Here's Shooting Star!"

And then that oh so familiar chord progression came, followed by, of course, the ending theme of FLCL.

Of course, the night wouldn't be over and I certainly wouldn't leave without hearing Hybrid Rainbow.  The final song cam and their it was.  Halfway through Sawao dropped his guitar entirely and started singing "Can you feel?"  He grabbed onto the mic stand with all his might like he was falling and it was the only thing holding him up.

Incredible...

Breed

Even though Hybrid Rainbow was by far their best sung song, I was surprised when midway through the show they did an impromptu Nirvana cover.  Being a huge fan of Nirvana, and Breed being one of my favorite songs of theirs, it was a very cool surprise.

F*cking sick, mang. I missed a Nirvana cover from one of my favorite bands. Two favorites in one shot, damn it! However, I don't like My Foot 'cause the album is incredibly Pop (you'll see it in my review soon, oh how I'll bash it). NEED OLD PILLOWS NOW!
