What makes Manga interesting?
« on: February 20, 2006, 03:07:08 PM »
So, like, we need to, like, talk more about other stuffs, other than like, you know, what manga we just bought and stuffs.

So what makes manga interesting? Why the heck would you want to read black and white comics (heard they were lame, like)? You know? So what is it...?!

Compelling storylines.
Interesting and well-developed characters.
Pretty pictures.

All of those reasons and more: Practically speaking, a manga is easier to pick up than a book is.  I don't really have the time to read a full-fledged book anymore (:(), so I have to get my literary fix where I can, even if it can't really be called "literary."  It's also less constraining than watching a movie or a TV show.  I can pick it up or put it down whenever I feel like it, and I can take it anywhere.

Interesting. I read my manga because I like the black and white art. (I was sarcastic with the whole post, he he) The stories are a must, too.

I love the art, too.  But sometimes awesome art has a mediocre plot behind it, and vice versa.  So I value the storyline before the art.... although honestly I'll still get the mediocre plot ones too, just to look at that awesome art.

Now, if it's mediocre art and plot... that manga's just screwed.

The first and only reason I got into manga was because I like to compare the mangas to their associate animes. It's fun to see where the story differs and whatnot.

But in all honesty, it's the story that keeps me coming back. Without a decent, or even mediocre story I can't stand to read it. Poor art is something I can cope with, especially if there is a good story involved.

To me, a great manga has about 24 breat shots to every two pages...

Really; I am a sucker for drama and a good story. Sure, I like a little Azumanga every now and then, but I really only get into manga that have great stories.

Art is half and half. I am sure some of CLAMP's manga titles have great stories, but the art style just doesn't float my boat.
I fell off the wagon and now I can't stop.

I think any manga that can interest various people from different walks of life is interesting...

Y'know, a manga with a universal message.
