Dire Straits and Queen off the tip of my head. They both have one thing in common in that they both have strong points in their vocals. Mark Knopfler is a great singer and has a great voice to listen to, while Freddie Mercury's voice is amazing. I have not heard a [male] singer yet with a better voice than he had. I got into both of these bands from my dad and mom, respectively. Thanks guys!

Other than that I'm terrible at describing why I like them, other than the horribly vague "I like their songs and how they sound." Funnily enough, I really like the song "Raising Steam" by Jethro Tull because it's sounds very Dire Straits-y.

Metallica would be another; their albums from 1984-1991 plus S&M are great. What other metal band would be imaginative enough to do a concert with the San Francisco Symphony? I haven't listened to anything else after the Black Album.

Finally, Creedence Clearwater Revival for that southern rock sound, and Genesis for the prog rock stuff.

Any music I listen to I most likely got into it based off of someone else's recommendation. I'm horrible at going out and finding new music on my own, which is why my music library is rather small-- I only have roughly 3500 songs on my winamp playlist because I have so many video game/movie soundtracks.

Hm... I would call them "artists" to be more general.

I love:

-The Flashbulb
-Aphex Twin
-Streetlight Manifesto

IDM and Ska, man.

Here are my top 5 bands:

1) Limp Bizkit - with the exception of Fred Durst, these guys are incredibly talented. It's a shame Fred fired the DJ recently. He was my favorite member.

2) Rage Against the Machine - this band puts Limp Bizkit to shame. The only reason they're number 2 is because I don't agree with their political views.

3) Red - I'm no Christian but they are one of the best Christian bands around.

4) Nine Inch Nails - One of my favorite bands I listened to while growing up. It's a shame Trent doesn't care for NIN these days. His new project How to Destroy Angels is just bad.

5) Corporate Avenger - Two pissed off Native Americans who write songs bashing religion and the government. They're an industrial band with a bit of hip hop and rock.
