You would think they'd have bothered to animate that opening dive that was oh so inspiring.
I'm surprised the kid they were hyping all episode didn't snap his leg at any point.
Not sure why they have the girl he is gonna shelf to focus on diving or his brother who seems to have the hots for said girl but whatever.
I'm in.

Another show that has decent premiere that somehow got dull thanks to the pacing. Damn.
I am not sure if good animes are getting fewer these days or my taste has gone numb because most of what I watch recently look the same.

Oh, another shameless plug. Here's my blog: http://samui26.wordpress.com

Whole lotta talkin'.
They showed a glimpse of MC losing his "friends" as a he focuses on diving. I hope to see this fleshed out.

Show is impressively mediocre and quite boring but the novelty of a diving-based series, even one functionally no different from any other sports anime, has me hesitant to drop.

Show would be better if it was just a straight-forward tale about Yoichi's career. The Coach and him wold probably have a great dynamic.

Was the soundtrack always this dynamic? Regardless, I am feeling it.

Surprisingly there is a lot goin on in this show. All the characters have their own shit and it is being addressed concurrently.
While in-line with his character, I wish MC struggled more, or at all, to choose diving over his girlfriend. He just wholeheartedly loves diving that he doesn't even think about which to allot his time towards. The same applies to the girlfriend. She just wholeheartedly loves MC that she is perfectly happy being sidelined constantly. Show me that a decision was made.
And how many ****ing times is she going to tuck her hair behind her ear in a single scene?! ****, at the very least animate some wind(or the effects of) so there is some internal logic.
Thankfully his 2 diving buddies bring the drama. They are upset that MC is receiving preferential treatment. Now, they have no business having such animosity seeing as they shirk additional training and generally provide the bare minimum effort but it is nevertheless very human to have such feelings. I also like that all this, girlfriend included, is very much in the background, reflecting the single-mindedness of the MC.

Ya know, I was hesitant going into this episode, the introduction of a new character seemed for a rather bland dynamic, but Dive!! managed to continue being engaging. Though, that aforementioned bland dynamic is very much there, and will come to the forefront when New Guy confronts his stuff.

edgy character designs aside, this was still very much more of what makes this series good.

A bit on the nose with the melancholic tone(music/lighting) during that opener
Similarly, I don't know how I feel about Fujitani just outright stating the issue at hand. But, it didn't seem like Tomo was going to ponder the specifics so I guess now he is forced to. Plus, Fujitani is coming from a place of experience having sacrificed relationships to be where he is. Well done.

I like the idea of "flashiest dive, splashiest entry." Why not, instead of attempting to limit the splash, you could be judged on its magnitude? Or at least a competition where judging focused exclusively on the acrobatics.
Omg the scene with Coach Fujitani about shortcuts and how our clinets are developing young adults, just everyone has some relevant involvement and some manner of arc. This show is so good.
Okitsu's family tradition sounds neat and I'm sure exists in many island cultures.
Man they REALLY undermined the scene of Tomo's success with Coach's adsurdly apparent cross-eyed-ness. WTF. How did that make it past editing? Regardless, the scene as a whole felt underwhelming.

OH SHIT. The drama I wanted. This episode began addressing the tension between Tomo and his diving buddies but that was inevitably going to end in minimal drama. The three of them are birds-of-a-feather and understand the specific lifestyle they lead. What I wanted was Tomo falling out with his normie friends/brother/GF. This episode brought just that...in the final scene. The final scene suggests GF was cheating(ya know, spending time with. They are children ain't nobody banging) with Brother. Yes. I want everyone to acknowledge the obvious and be better off for having done so. All the while I will bask in the drama as the scenario plays out.

Show is great and ain't nobody give a **** about it. It is Kabukibu all over. While Kabukibu was fun, it was ultimately nothing. Dive!! has the makings of something more.

God DAMN it is so good.

Diving IS their life.
All things are quite literally secondary.

This episode was such a great book-ender; succinctly wrapped up/transitioned both Tomo(lingering feelings about leading a normal life) and Okitsu(Granddaddy issues) into their next arc. Great stuff

Ya know, just another fantastic episode. Keepin' it casual.

Though I question the handling of Okitsu. They mention his back injury may not have been such a factor had he seen a specialist and they had the full story....so why bait him just to **** him over for the next 5 years based on hearsay? They made the decision that he would abstain from the Olympics but don't even know, definitively, if his injury demands such caution. Dick move. Was there no way to confirm the information before igniting any passion?

Is this AOTS? Honestly, probably. I mean, 18if is just on a whole different level that I don;t want to lessen it with meme-iry(it's Mimori!...S-cry-ed. too lazy to hyperlink. ain't like anybody reads this thread) like "lawlAOTS". However, I am a big fan of the cohesive serial narrative and 18if most certainly isn't that. Here we are week seven and I have yet to finish the first 2 episodes of Made in Abyss. All I'm sayin' , Dive!! is genuinely great and I hate everyone who hasn't watched it.

Even the 2nd of the Lesser Two had an arc. Number one of the Lesser Two decides to give up diving seeing as he was never going acheive and that decision leads Two to question his complacency. As shit and lesser as the Two were, they had each other. Lesser One's bold act forced Two to evaluate himself.
Also Okitsu and Coach Roomate have had the best interactions the past few episodes.

Also also, this third guy, established last episode, reminds me of Lucky Sengoku(not that his gimmick is in any way similar but simply that he has a gimmick. IDK, David may have been the more apt reference. I guarantee I can give the perfect PoT parallel. There had to be a guy who was just consistent as **** without any theatrics. Fuuji? Did PoT really not have such an obvious character?)

What a surprise. Yet another fantastic episode.
I do wish Shizuku, introduced this episode, could have existed beyond her relation to Okitsu.

9:

"Having more representitives doesn't necessarily increase our chances of medaling"... except that is quite literally how probability works.

My God Yoichi's mom is adorable

Everytime an older female (the coach) is so compelling I so wish anime more indulged in an older cast. Being 25 I desire more Moriyama/Harada(Rika being one of my outright favorite characters) pairs not just this wonderful "experienced adult imparts worldly knowledge upon youth".

Athletes are products and that realization is at odds with said athletes passion.

10:

My God, Tomo's Mom may be even better
I'm eagerly awaiting my return to Japan so I can once again immerse myself in "The Land of Attractive Short-haired Middle-aged Women".

The concept that the Olympics, which ought be a pure celebration of athleticism, have been corrupted by various influences, and how that impacts would-be participants is very interesting.

Not-Rika(Coach) killing it in yet another episode.
There really isn't anything to say. The characters are great. The character interactions are great. Just more of the purity of a shared passion. The three leads, as seen in episode 8, understand each other so well and want nothing more than an honest stage on which to compete.
Simply beautiful.

Yoichi had an arc these past 2 epusides and both the macro and micro were handled fantastically.

P.S. Building upon my nonsensical PoT allusion, Oishi is obviously the bland guy.

Ryo coming full circle and maturing having left diving. Leaving allowed him a different perspective which now allowed him to view the whole picture. Good stuff.

At the end of the day, they are all but kids - even Yoichi. The usual "all business" Yoichi couldnt help but slowly and unknowingly become overwhelmed by all he specifically has to lose. For the others, nobody qualifying and the facility closing down is pretty upsetting but not something that they cant overcome. Just this episode did a great job of conveying not only the importance of a coach but also a coach's expendability. Ultimately it is the athlete who undergoes the training and the athlete who performs in the events. The coach is just there to facilitate. But this isn't the case for Yoichi. The head coach of the facility is his father. If Yoichi fails to qualify and the facility closes then his father loses his livelihood and t would have been, in some way, Yoichi's fault. Now the show established that even if the facility closes Yoichi's father has a job lined up as a university lecturer but interestingly this revelation further compounds the stress for Yoichi rather than offering a release. His father taking this job would represent his father abandoning diving - the thing to which his father had devoted his entire life too.

Seems like this series can end at a good point within the greater story.
I'm excited.

A bit too anime with the Dad's outburst.
O shit. The first dive to actually be animated.
Tomo's big moment of self-doubt was contrived.
Up.
Abrupt flash foward.
I guess they blew the dive animation budget on Yochi's dive he had been practicing for one episode rather than Tomo's winning dive he had been learning for half the series.
Looks lke Tomo won.

A weak episode which rounds out an unfortunately underwhelming conclusion.
6/10
It had the makings(plot-lines) for a powerful character driven story but never really had the proper focus or tone to truly flesh out the more gripping ideas. I had fun.
