Did this series always look this bad? Resembled a crappy Flash job you'd see on Adult Swim in too many scenes.

Mamiya Sakura remains my favorite girl of the season.

Still no followup on that foreboding Roukudou look alike.

And please continue to forget about Holy Ash-kun. The show is better and more enjoyable without him.

Animation for this show has been up and down in places.  Considering previous Takahashi based anime and their animation woes, it almost feels appropriate and nostalgic.

Ah, teen infatuation.

"K-sempai, we love you"
"Sorry ladies, he is already dead."
"We don't care! We'll die too. Just as long as we can be with K-sempai!"
K-sempai: "ladies please. Im flattered. But you'll have to wait until your 40...I only go for...mature women"
"...**** this faggot. What a creep. We're glad he's dead."

At least the girls drew a line.

I want aware this was gonna run for 25 episodes. Guess that explains why they kinda forgot about the evil organization that wants Roukudou outta the way.

Ah!  There's another Takahashi staple:  the worthless good for nothing parent who constantly gets the protagonist in trouble.  Unlike what Rod Stewart once sung about, we DO know where the money went.

I was actually hoping that we would see Rinne's mother instead of grandmother, but this works.  The romantic hijinks is now up in full force.

Oh, and there's the eventual love rival for Mamiya Sakura.  Yep, all of Takahashi's favorite "go-to"s are being utilized here.  At least she's not an obnoxious twat.

As with Ranma 1/2, most of the attempts of the villains to be villainous are so horrendously absurd that only a 4 year old would fall for any of their tricks.  Naturally, there will always be a character who WILL fall for everything.  EVERYTHING.

Poor guy just can't catch a break.

Also, bounty hunting seems ludicrously profitable. 1mil yen for one shotting an ogre? Start farming Rokudou.

You get the idea that his problem isn't MAKING money so much as KEEPING it.

One of the most important points in life: MAKING Money and KEEPING Money are two very different skills.

In this case, Rinne has a jackass father who keeps using all his money on chicks.  Don't ask how; it's Takahashi.

I'm struggling with Mamiya's deadpan face. I know it's supposed to be funny, and I prefer it to the overreactions of dimensionless characters, but it unsettles me how little emotion she shows.

The face matches the personality.  I said earlier that she's awfully casual about being taken to the world of the afterlife and hanging out with a guy who takes souls to the other side, not to mention blindly trusting a giant rabbit and following him to whatever doom.  She definitely has the Vulcan thing going on.

I honestly can't think of another character quite like her. I've seen countless Rei expys, stone-faced warriors, heartless villains, and the like, but for all of them, the expectation for that behavior is built into the character, and it features heavily in their development. At the very least, the mask eventually cracks.

I haven't seen all the episodes, but Mamiya has no trauma or serious unpleasantness in her life that would explain the poker face, and I don't remember seeing her really smile or be upset (can anyone clear this up?). To me, it looks like she wanders through each episode stoned out of her mind.
