Explain your NHRV user name
« on: January 09, 2014, 08:39:15 PM »
I'm curious. Here's mine:

A Marid is the most powerful class of commonly summoned demon in the magician-ruled London of The Bartimaeus Trilogy. One of the first questions Ptolemy, the demon-sympathetic prodigy, asks Bartimaeus upon summoning him, is whether or not the denizens of the Other Place have a King or leader.

Marid King.

But I've discovered that many people hallucinate an extra D and write 'Madrid King'.

Sure. I'm game.

My user name is simply my real name, but I took away every other letter. So for example David would look like DVD (And yes, that was completely unintentional). Care to guess my real name from this. It feels like a weird way to make one, but MCAL kind of just rolled off the tongue.

I want to be like Sorrow-kun

"Sorrows Neptune" was the name of some weird monster character I thought of when I was 11 (give or take a year), which I then decided to use as my username on certain websites once I started using the internet shortly afterward. "Neptune" because the creature was aquatic, and "Sorrows" because I thought being angsty was cool back then.

It has, I would like to think, aged better than most usernames created by 11 year olds, so its stuck with me ever since.

I played Magic the Gathering back in the day, and I had a Psychatog/Shadowmage Infiltrator deck.

I recommend Mobile Suit, RX-0 and Unicorn from the Unicorn OST.

Why, so I can cringe at myself again? You want to share in that cringe?

As a teenager, I listened to way more Metallica than was healthy, so it used to be sorrowharvester.  Then I went into my weeaboo phase, so I changed it to Sorrow-kun.  I could have changed it years ago, but, well, why?  It's like throwing away an identity... an internet identity, sure, but, it's not that strange to become attached to the stupid things one does as a teenager.

TOP SECRET

TIF's explanation would be enlightening.

People always start off asking 'Do you know Othello? Desdemona?' and they're mistaken, but it's also amusing that people have asked what 'Desdemondia' means on Cha Cha, Wiki Answers, Asktastic.. etc. Always have been Des though, since my days of runescape, so for about 7 years now.

I would have thought Typical Idiot Fan requires no explanation, haha

I have three possible explanations, and differentiating between any of them is like trying to figure out who Sophie's father is in Mamma Mia!

1) The most straightforward interpretation is that Delphi is the city in Greece where the Oracle is said to be located. Nox is the Latin suffix for night.

2) Along the same lines as #1, Delphi can also be directly taken out of Philadelphia; I’m an ex-resident of the area and a lifelong Eagles/Phillies fan. Nox is, again, the Latin suffix for night. So essentially, “Philly night.” This interpretation actually gives my username sort of a dark tone because you’re likely suicidal if you go out at night in select areas in Philly.

3) Portmanteau of Delphin (Greek dolphin god) and equinox (the March equinox being the day when spring starts). Dolphin god picked with the dolphin kick in mind, the kick you do while swimming butterfly. I contemplated Dolphinox as a username for slightly under a split-second before I realized how stupid that sounded.

Which explanation works the best for you? Looking back on it, I think I leaned most toward #3, but at the end of the day it just sounded nice and fit like a glove. I did half-assedly consider more animanga-related names (ex. Hitsuzen and Amirluk), but realized pretty quick I didn’t want to be attached to any one series for aesthetic purposes. Good thing too, as the first avy I used on here ended up being Triela.

You know, I'm not actually all that big (I'm only about 6 feet tall, width wise on the other hand...). I chose the name years ago for reasons I don't even remember on another forum and the name stuck.
I'm so awesome, I have my own TV Tropes page:http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheBigGuy.

NO! THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE!!

Quote
I became so jaded and cynical towards fans that I created this monicker, the Typical Idiot Fan, to express my displeasure. I have had this name now for a very long time, and I will continue to have it so long as anime fans continue to be really ****ing stupid.

Shhhhhhh.. Madrid King Shhhhh...
