I think he has. I mean, for an extremely limited comedic character, yeah. But AC's right, when they try to go this grimdark on us, it doesn't work. Then again, pretty much everything since the beginning of the "rescue arc" has been out of place. The rescue felt like one of those rushed and stupid anime-only endings that have all the impact of a feather boa on Hulk Hogan; yeah, it kind of works if you're not concerned with aesthetics but, what the hell are you doing? But for this to go beyond the anime-only ending and head straight into world apocalypse seems a bit heavy. As Syndrome put it in The Incredibles when referring to Mr. Incredible killing someone, "this seems a bit dark for you..."
And it is. Like Mr. Incredible's bluff, nobody is buying it. And a lot of it has to do with every character just being one big gag to this point.
