Campione

I've said this before, but I'll say it again, if I fall asleep somewhere in the first episode, it's not because I'm tired, it's because your shit is ****ing boring.

Too much of this reminded me of Legend of the Legendary Heroes, which, while enjoyable, was not worth emulating in future works.  Couple that with the obvious harem setup and this show is probably just going to be a new Color Wars (complete with studly possibly demonic main male lead).  The only part I enjoyed was people getting drunk.  Drunk people are funny.  Drunk anime characters are even funnier because they do some crazy ass shit I've never seen a real drunk person do.

Apparently this isn't a harem series.  At least, not much of one per some of the other information I've seen.

We also started with Volume 3 of a LN series, with some changes to the setup.  Apparently the LN fans aren't too happy, but I think starting a series with "I'm the 7th King of the World and here's my hijinks" would have been more jarring.

I'll give it a few more episodes, but there's also not a lot to follow this season... But I think a 5 is the upper potential here.

You know, that episode piqued my interest, if only for the mythological side of things (which is another of my hobbies).  I remember reading about Melqart, One of the older Sumerian/Babylonian gods I think.  He was supplanted by another, though I can't remember who.  The cuniform script was a nice touch.  Don't know if it actually means anything though, probably there just for the look.

Though Erica's Italian was god awful.  I didn't even recognise it as such until she said so....

Edit:  I was getting Melqart mixed up with Marduk.  Marduk is a Babylonian god who took his fathers (Ea) place, who abdicated for him and he forcibly absorbed the powers of Enlil.  Melqart is a Phoenician god, and Verethragna is the Persian god of victory, though my knowledge on Persina subjects isn't that great and my limited research tells me he was also god of the Vrahran fire, the most sacred of fires, rather than light.  I'll have to look into that more, but the show seems to have done its homework for the most part.  I hope it keeps it up.

Kaiji's narrator?!!! Hell yeah! That guy makes every show better.
I'm so awesome, I have my own TV Tropes page:http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheBigGuy.

Hmm.

It's generic at best. The male lead's generic, the female lead's generic; heck, even the villain's generic. It's visually above average, but I've yet to see anything remotely unique about this show. I'm not even sure if the show even understand the themes it's planning to use; like most shounen action shows, it's just using them to make itself look cool.

I'm giving this a 3-episode test.

This seems like the season of the cynical harem series.

It also seems like Campiones are "immortal" in the Highlander sense.  At least, that's my take at the moment.

Erica's an overnight slut.

I get that this is just another typical harem action. What I don't get is why Godou has so many powers and shit from the onset, when I got the hint that he's new to this whole god-hunting universe. Did something happen to him that I wasn't aware of?

The "Book" he used in ep 1 was of Prometheus.  I.e. the god that stole knowledge of other gods and gave it to humans.  He stole 2 powers from the god he killed, but it would seem the god gave him the rest of his powers.   So, he's got the whole slate of powers from the guy.  Rather than 1 or 2 tricks, the god had a bunch.  That was my take.  Especially given the scene of him killing the god in the episode.

Well, in Erica's defense, he became a "King of Kings" over night.  I think he qualifies as a guy to slut it up for.  Also the "strike first" principle.  (It doesn't necessarily speak well to her character, but it's a perfectly logical reaction)

Slightly better episode than the first, but not really.  Honestly, I prefer Erica being a slut than your standard overreactive and stuck up bitch she was in the first episode.  Though, seriously, harem MCs are such faggots.  What normal human being wouldn't hit that?  Yeah, I know, he's not a normal human being now, but I seriously doubt becoming a god would sate the lust factor.  Jesus, mythology is full of lustful horndogs, especially the male gods.  This may become a plot point later, since the booming narrative voice of the next episode preview guy seems to indicate that he should be one of those lustful gods.

I'm trying to figure out how the guy knows how to control these powers he's never had before so well.  Must be part of the Prometheus thing;  built in manuals.

I'd love a series that actually gave the MC a manual and he read it.  At some point, it'd be great counter-storytelling.

Well, I've never seen a kissing scene drop a massive amount of exposition.  But, I'll give them massive credit for being inventive in that regard.   I also want to say there's a reference to Greek Mythology in the "knowledge via kissing" bit, but I'm coming up blank on references at the moment.

The series is getting better after a pretty hurried setup.  They probably needed 24 episodes for this conversion but only had 1 cour to setup with, so they crammed in the setup very quickly.  But I like that our MC isn't terribly convinced Erica would "fall" for him and is wondering what game she's playing.  We actually got that answer.  For as powerful as she is (and he's pretty incredible. as SHOWN in the episode), she doesn't have the power to truly oppose a god.  Godou has that power, even if he didn't want it.  So, she's placed her bet on him and is "all in" on him.  Actually speaks pretty well to her character, really.  Duty, honor and loyalty?  What are these foreign concepts to a character in anime? haha

This still won't be a great series, I just don't see that being possible.  But I think it's going to be better than either of the Index season but not as good as Railgun.  So, a pretty decent watch, for the moment.

And I do like a series that puts the Fate of the World in peril in episode 3!  That's an opening arc for ya.

I had a feeling that the rogue god would be Athena when I saw the owls last episode.

Erica has an interesting combination of disciplines.  A disciple of Hermes, yet she can use the lance than pierced the side of Christ.  I don't think Hermes would mind too much if she flirted with other gods, but Yahweh isn't exactly keen on that sort of thing.  And was that Fenrir I saw in the ED?  Does that mean that not only do we get this starless night, but Ragnarök as well?

So umm... this Kuroneko-lookalike is the almighty Athena? Wow, not sure if I would tremble at her presence or be smitten by her looks.

And yeah, in this universe, a French kiss would transfer data faster than USB 3.0.

Technically, Kuroneko killed Godou with a french kiss.  So, points for that.

And there's a Matrix joke about getting "jacked in" having a different meaning in this series, haha.

I'm starting to like Godou.  He seems to have a handle on what his powers can and can't do and what his limitations are, and plans accordingly.  I was not expecting him to be aware that he may not be able to overcome Athena with the golden sword alone, so the plan B came as a surprise to me.  I was fully expecting him to become exceptionally flustered that he didn't defeat her, and only wins because Erica came in the nick of time to save his sorry arse from being flayed good and proper.

Still, it is fairly average overall, but so far it's better than I expected.
