Ep 8

I'm not surprised you got a kick out of this.  This had more of those (somewhat) subtle sexual symbols you talked about earlier.  That alley scene.  She touches her ear and a single drop of liquid fell out of her can of softdrink.  Three guess what that was supposed to mean.

"To me, that was the cutest hairstyle she could have".

My ass. He just got a case of possessiveness, and did something incredibly selfish. What an idiot, it's people like him that are hipsters. I got a little bit angry seeing that.

Ah wait, they got there. Yep, since I'm writing this whilst I watch, I hadn't yet seen when Oka just stated his possessiveness. The fact someone realizes this is a good thing, and I appreciate Oka, because without her the show in general would be so much shitter. She's the one that actually gets stuff done.

[End of Episode]

Well, the two of them aren't the most likable characters ever. Sure they are quite realistic in some regards, but I just can't like Urabe, and although Tsubaki is someone I can somewhat relate relate to and certainly understand most the time, I'm not overly fond of him either. I think the show the show thinks too much of it's own romance. Anyway, I am interested to see the next episode.

Go grab your girlfriend by the head and muss up her hair really quickly.  Report back results.

I'm guessing that was another euphemism, but I'm not 100% sure what for...

Anyway, episode demonstrates the possessive jealousy of one and the possessive jealousy of the other.  The first results in a bit of sex hair, the second results in some scissoring (hurrrrr).

9: Oka apparently likes "Blender Hairing", because she looked like she just got out of a blender after Ueno got finished... and she really liked it.

Was an interesting discussion about the limits of possessiveness.  You need quite a bit to make a relationship work and protect it, but it goes both ways.  So questioning if you're being too much is quite natural.  Though I would actually believe Tsubaki that he likes her hair down.  He really just wants her to smile at him, haha.

Well, in one of those odd coincidences of life, two of my friends founded their recent relationship upon the fact that she liked mussing up his hair. I don't know how but the fact she liked messing with his hair ended up with them dating, but now, thanks to Nazi no Kanojo X, I now have a clue.

I thought that was all done well. I think it is a pity that the girl has become such a manipulative bitch, because what the situation could have arised from more innocent motives.  This will be an interesting next episode.

10: Sadly, Hayakawa reminds me a quite a few girls I knew in high school.  Was a wonderfully done episode.

Urabe has definitely changed a lot since the first episode, but she's also got a lot of that ol' black magic working for her still.  She knows who Hayakawa is, and she's not at all shy about treating her curtly, definitely more than she ever treated Oka.  Urabe is also genre savvy, and knows something is up.  When she was probing Tsubaki for information, she was trying to find out if he'd be at the same place on Sunday.  The lie doesn't help, and probably only confirmed Urabe's suspicions more than anything else.  I seriously doubt she's going to be caught by surprise by Hayakawa's manipulations, but if a bit of look-alike worship in a magazine can piss her off, deliberate "****ing with" is not going to amuse our Mysterious Girlfriend one bit.

Oka, meantime, continues to be a little shit-stirrer.  She didn't mean to blow Tsubaki's cover (she didn't know anyway), but once she knew what was up... yeah, that little bitch.  God I love her.

This is also one of those times where I almost felt sorry for that Tsubaki dip.  It can't be easy for anybody to encounter someone they had strong feelings for for so long and brush aside everything.  Yeah, he's got a new girlfriend, but as anybody who's ever run into their high school flame at a 20 year reunion can tell you, nostalgia is a hell of a ****ing drug.  Even if Hayakawa wasn't manipulating him, Tsubaki would be having a tough time controlling his raging hormones, but toss in the shenanigans, and he's basically screwed.

I thought that was a strange way to end the show personally, it tied in well with everything and it had a good ending but throughout I kept thinking "Really? This is the last episode you know?".

The Series

The series wasn't that bad, but I didn't like Urabe for most the show, did at the end, but during the first half I really didn't like the show, which is why, taking account of it into my rating, I've decided to give it a 5. I just thought Urabe was such a know-it-all with what Tsubaki was feeling or what his emotions were. Also, without Oka this series would be getting a 4, because she just made everything better. She was the one that got the plot moving, the one who told Urabe what needed to be done, and she was also the funniest source of humour in the series.

The series did stuff well, for example the things TIF mentioned in episode 6, Tsubaki acted in a realistic way for most the series, hell he wasn't always likable (I think possessiveness is horrendous) but it's not as if I could never understand what he was doing. Last thing is that I have some negative bias towards the show, by bias I just mean a feeling that I have no reason for, it happens and I can't ignore it, which is why despite the fact it probably deserves higher I'm giving it a 5.

Well, best I can do is a 6 myself.  I actually enjoyed the crap out of this, but considering things it's just not a complete story and I can't give an incomplete story much more than that.  I like the characters, I like the situations, I adore that they dabbled in both symbolic and overt sexualism in a provocative way, which caused a lot of nostalgia in me with my first hormonal experiences.  I've also made no secret that I adore Oka, who was an effectively used plot driver, though considering how genre-savvy Urabe actually was at times, I wonder just how much driving she was really doing.

The problem is I want more.  The mysteries behind Urabe are still ongoing in the manga, I believe, and so while the teenage hormonal hijinks are fun and all, there's still just a rather huge missing piece.  I want to also know not only where this relationship goes but also where Oka's goes.  I'm also interested in knowing if Tsubaki's older sister ever does decide to go for her own thing.

That was an interesting place to leave off.  But it does leave much to be explored.  I do hope it gets a second season, there is so much more to do.  But as it is....I'm not sure what number I should arbitrarily assign it.  I really liked it, but it's not finished....I think I'll hold off on a score for the time being.
