As you undoubtedly know by now, I hate three minute per episode anime

Imagine how much more you would hate them if they cut the length in half. That's this show in a nutshell.

Although I do not know for sure, I have heard that this iteration of the Nyaruko-san series is actually a full size anime done by Xebec.
I would actually like that quite a bit, the flash versions were kind of "eh" but I liked the little Lovecraft touches.
"Reality is such pain. And for those of us who get fed up with that kind of reality, we simply choose to make a new one. We create little walls, and separate the trash from the stuff we like, and when that’s all done we keep the things we care about and kick the rest to the curb. You’d be amazed how well it works! A whole world made out of just moe, tsundere, and BL it’s the best discovery ever! If you ask me that really it the best way to separate reality, from fiction."

Yup, each episode of Another Crawling Chaos is 24 minutes. Y'all are confusing it with the web series that came before it.

1:

I was hoping this show would be a parody of the Cthulhu Mythos, but judging by this pilot episode it seems more like it's just using the Mythos as something to spice up what is otherwise a shitty magical girlfriend series.

They might have just been using the magical girlfriend cliches to help set up the pilot episode, so maybe the later episodes will involve more of the Lovecraft parodying I was promised? I'll give this series a fair chance and watch a few more episodes to see if that's the case or not.

That was ****ing shit.  Not one single positive about the entire episode.  I left the room, made two bologna sandwiches, and came back and never felt like I missed anything important.  Probably doesn't help that I'm exhausted from a cold, but under the influence of influenza I have enjoyed other shows so far this season, so it's probably just this pile of dog crap.

Yup, TIF having a field day. :)

1: Not as bad as I was expecting.  I'll probably give it an ep 2.

Then again, I attempted to watch a few episodes of Ika Musume tonight as well.  I actually enjoyed this ep 1 over that series.  So maybe my bar was just low tonight.

I have to agree with ImperialX on this one, even though I hated the flash animation. This was actually quite entertaining, a pure burst of manic energy that doesn't slow down for anything. I don't think this is destined for greatness, but hey, it isn't the worst way to spend a half hour.

That was terrible.  The only thing remotely Lovecraftian is the name (and the Call of Cthulu RPG drops....OK, they were amusing), there's not anything even creepy about it.  I hated Nyarlko from the moment she appeared on screen.  I'm not picking this one up, but if TIF's following it, I'll watch the thread.  It'll be funnier.

The only thing that irked me was the male tsundere, but Nyaruko more than made up for it. Hopefully the male lead will get less annoying in future episodes, but even if he doesn't, this has a lot of promise. Haven't laughed that much because of an anime in a good long while. **** yes.

2: This series has two things going for it: it doesn't take itself seriously and a extremely strong female lead. The Writers said "eff the plot" which seems to be working so far. This is almost reminiscent of excel saga in this aspect.

When TIF calls a  "****ing shit", I know I'm in for a good time :). This anime shows good promise. The worst thing the writers can do now is introduce some BS melodramatic "plot" and ruin all the fun. The female lead is hilarious, and I can stand the male lead, so this is miles ahead of anything Xebec ever made. Plot is the cancer that is killing anime. We need more shows like this.

The first few episodes to Senki Zesshou Symphogear and Black Rock Shooter were painful for me to watch, but those shows eventually turned out to be pretty entertaining because of how bad they were. Now I'm wondering if it'll be the same for this series, or whether I should just drop it....HMMMMM.

I guess I'll just wait until next week and see if I feel like tormenting myself.

Jesus.

Apparently all this is going to be is a random fan-wank reference fest.   Problem is, the references and jokes are delivered with all the humor of a disemboweled baby squirrel.  Seeing another CQC joke and then having it explained as basically being the show's version of Calvinball forced my middle finger to stay rigid towards the East for a good five minutes.  To top it all off, the show does indeed try to take itself seriously from time to time, y'know, in order to force the episode's plot to move.

What exactly am I supposed to like here, if the humor is flat as my washboard abs in my dreams?  Nyarko being a hyperactive git?  Naw.  Lesbians with frickin' laser beams around her frickin' head?  Naw.  Our hero being the butt-monkey, almost literally?

Someone ****ing convince me this isn't anything but shit.  Go on, I dare you.

DA**** HAVE I SIGNED UP FOR

You know what, I'll be honest: this show isn't boring. Nope, it's not. It's kinda fun because the show's on crack every microsecond. Don't wanna say much on whether it's dog crap or not, but it certainly isn't boring me to death. But I will say one thing: I do really feel like hurling some duck tape at that moe moe and Cthulhu. I feel sorry for Mahiru, though; that kind of girl would drive me to the edge of a 50-floor building.

TIF hates it with the intensity of a thousand suns, but kevo loves it with the intensity of a thousand suns as well. Not sure where I stand, but when I checked that the show is done by the same production studio and director as MM!, I'm kinda relieved: it's not as bad. Honestly.

And we get 2 new characters next episode.  We probably have a Reverse Trap, that might actually be genderless or something, just to add another set of Trope Inversions.

I do hope we get an entire episode devoted to inverting shounen fighting tropes.  That could be so much fun.

By the way, why is Nyarlko weak to a fork? Is that something random, or is that something actually present in the Chthulu Mythos?

This is probably a 7k/500 splits for BluRay/DVD sales.  But, it'll sell.  It takes the "fan wank" series to the next level.  It goes so far it's effectively a trope inversion unto itself.  And, if it keeps up the speed, it's actually quite fun entertainment.  High art, it sure as hell isn't.  But it's pretty enjoyable.  Don't mistake that for super, super funny.  This is as much sight gags and basic comedy, so finding references is as much of the enjoyment as the humor.  (Which also makes it actually brutal to translate)  Acchi Kocchi is funnier of the series going right now.

Still producing serious laughs each episode.  It's not high art, but it's also not stupid.  And it's still funny with only getting about 1/4 of the references.  And it's fun to try to guess what reference you just watched.  Haha

This series really shouldn't work, and it probably wouldn't work well if you don't get a lot of the references, but it's hilarious.  Though our trip back to R`lyeth wasn't as as funny as some of the previous arcs, there were several LOL moments.  I really liked the Denpa Onna reference from Kuuko.

But, I will admit, a Beach/Onsen arc from this series might rupture a few core muscles.  Hijinks and Lowjinks are about to ensue.  Sanity points will be lost.

But it's a little weird towards the end of the episode. Why? Mahiro was "tsun" while Nyaruko was "dere". Now that's weird, if you ask me.

7: They made a funny Minesweeper joke.  That's awesome.

Oh, and easily one of the best cliff-hanger/opening scene setups in a while.  That resolution was just too good.

The ending section did make some sense.  Mahrio wasn't trying to be malicious and he does some have appreciate for Nyarko.  The problem is Nyarko needs to learn the concept of "boundaries".  Marhio's response was him lashing out and did hurt Nyarko deeply. That's what he was trying to fix.  So, while it works for the audience's enjoyment at her constantly getting rejected, for the character, if she just cooled it down a bit and got to know Mahrio better, I'm sure he'd come around.  That and the fact is she could probably kill him in an instant, so making her too upset is likely not a wise idea.

And Cthuuko's flag can't be set, haha.

OH PARODY GALORE.

But seriously, what is it with parodies and references? Not saying that this episode is bad; comedies these days just seem to be relying too much on them. Whatever happen to making and using fresh material for comedy? It's funnier when there's something new that we couldn't really think of, with punchlines that hit the spot. Comedies should just use parodies sparingly; rather than being known as the show that's funny in using other shows, it's better to be one that's funny in making its own.

As for the episode itself, I suppose it's amusing. But I'll be honest: I feel like something's missing these last few episodes. I think it's the energy. The first two episode really killed my sanity points but that's Nyaruko for you. Where's that energy now? Has the show mellowed out?

This show has been losing steam for some time already. It's not as over-the-top ridiculous as the first few episodes, and for the last few episodes, it's been very... sane. Even routine and run-of-the-mill actually, since it's become the usual "Nyaruko goes overboard, Mahiro loses it, Nyaruko retracts, Mahiro apologises, back to square one" pattern.

The only good thing now, is that it's only 1 cour long. Can't imagine what it would be like it's 2 instead.

Considering the sales, I'm afraid you're going to get another cour eventually.

Don't know what people see in this pile of shit.

Well, everything went well. Kinda disappointed to see how those events that led up to Mahiro losing his cool at Nyaruko were just a setup, but even if they weren't, it would've led up to another kind of cliché where Mahiro make it up with the riffraff à la your typical love comedy. Meh~

My thoughts on Haiyore! Nyarlko-san:

This is a show that's set out to make audience lose their sanity points. From the onset, it looks like it has anything and everything but common sense, and naturally it's a type of comedy that isn't for everyone. In short, it's an out-and-out comedy, or so it came off looking so. But just as I feared, the whole nonsensical theme kinda wore off quickly, and although the parodies still kept pouring in, it kinda lost steam fast. Worse, it gradually turned into a run-of-the-mill love comedy that's a dime a dozen.

It's a 6/10 for me. It would come as no surprise if it gets a second season -- especially when the series' material (i.e. parodies) is always doable since parodies are "reusable" as long as there are other shows continuously -- but I'm doubtful if I want to follow it. It's not like it would have something different to offer, me thinks.

This episode was actually kind of enjoyable, until they ruined the tension with the butler's obsession for adult games.

The Series:

It's kind of frustrating that whenever I try to explain my contempt for this show on other websites, most people will just brush off my criticism's with "lol it's comedy! none of that matters!" as if the show's status as a comedy means it can get away with having a shitty plot and characters.

I chuckled here and there throughout the show, but overall I barely found anything enjoyable or objectively good about Nyarko-san. The plot was utterly horrible whenever it tried to be dramatic, the characters were all unlikable and flat, and I just didn't think it was funny. Even though it wasn't trying to be serious or anything, it still managed to feel like a huge insult to H.P. Lovecraft and the Cthulhu mythos.
