Personally, I would give Another either 5 or a 6. The production values are great and the ambiance is pretty good, even if the American-style horror grew weary on me after a while.

The production values being good I agree with, but the ambience is haphazard. Sometimes the show will nail it (such as in the scene I discussed in my review), and other times it'll be like "HEY GUYS LOUD MUSIC THIS SURE IS SCARY RIGHT." I'm not at all a fan of the "using loud music to pound a scare into the viewer's head" approach unless I think a story has really earned it. When Wendy stumbles upon that weird room where the dude in the bear suit is giving that guy a BJ in The Shining? I'd say that warrants the freaky music. There's nothing in Another that freaky; all the kills are hilarious, and the other "scares" pedestrian. The whole show would have benefited more from being subdued, but visual media as a whole are scared shitless of silence, so hey.

Not really the same show, are they?  So why contrast the ratings?

And this is coming from a guy who thought Yosuga no Sora was smutty garbage.  The rating for it isn't invalid just because I disagree with it.

While YnS is a garbage to most people but what makes me found it funny is Another have lots of interest built before and during it was shown but only trashed when it ends. YnS always trashed during and after when it was shown but get slightly better score than Another. I guess that review wasn't tainted with hype and that's a good thing actually.

Episode 0 (OVA):

One of the most boring 20 minutes of my life in recent history. The OVA's mostly just a slice-of-life depiction of Mei and Fujioka (her sister) hanging out, with only the last few minutes dealing with Fujioka's death. There's not really a point to this prequel.

Well, that's not true. It explains why Mei never bothers to use her eye-powers (although it's doesn't justify it,) and the slice-of-life bits were meant to establish how deep Mei and Fujioka's relationship was. Still boring though.

I thought the OVA was alright actually. It was a bit fan-servicey, but I didn't think it was offensive. I gave it a 5.

Most of it is boring, but I enjoyed Misaki trolling that gullible ****wit at the beginning, and the ferris wheel bit got a legit laugh from me. Granted, it wouldn't be nearly as effective if every kill in Another weren't so obscenely stupid, but you take entertainment where you can get it.
