Like Marika, I was half asleep for this entire episode. I understand that the previous arc is over and now it's time to begin a new one, and often that has a rather innocent beginning or cool down episode sandwiched between, but this one was about as ho-hum as it gets.
I think my biggest problem with Mouretsu Pirates is that there JUST ISN'T ANY ****ING REAL PROBLEM. Even the last arc's issues, which were interesting, were resolved so ****ing easily. I never feel like these folks have any honest to God troubles that they wont get over easily enough. So Marika loses the control ring to the Bentenmaru. No worries, one of the other kids picked it up, despite the ultra-tension tease of the anonymous hand grabbing the ring out of the zero-g air with a SENSE OF PURPOSE.... no really. This is worse than Pawn Stars' attempt at creating dramatic tension.
While I appreciate that not all problems are solved by screaming through space firing frickin' lazer beams, blowing shit up, and killing some folks, it couldn't hurt to have just ONE little major problem come up that the crew of the Bentenmaru, or more depressingly, a BUNCH OF ****ING HIGH SCHOOL KIDS, can't handle. Is the universe of the future lacking such complexity that Scooby Doo could rule the ****ing thing?
