That puzzle was indeed easy as hell. "Even you could solve it Nonoha". I got the solution of the problem facing Kaito, i.e. how to save himself and Rook, which was to stop the sun falling apart by jamming it with something. Also, knocking out one of the supports so it fell over to safety was pretty obvious as well, I got that. To be fair though, unlike Kaito I wouldn't know how to jam the sun so it wouldn't fall apart.

The Series

Although the series continues next week like usual, technically the series just ended, and next week it'll be season 2. So... what did I think of the series?

It started off terribly, I can't remember too clearly now, but they tried to make Kaito look really cool, and they had him solve all these puzzles with ease just to show us how hardcore he was. Kaito was annoying, and then they introduced Gammon who was loud and obnoxious, and even more annoying than Kaito. I was close to dropping it. However, I stuck to it and continued on, and was rewarded as the show improved gradually. I think this happened they they stopped doing "OMG, puzzle!! Kaito solves it! He's really cool!", and moved onto a ore serious plot. Usually I would have thought that a show as bad as it was would have failed at being serious, much like Guilty Crown, but it did pull it off to some degree, though it wasn't fantastic. The puzzles stopped being things to impress us, and became plot devices. It wasn't about the puzzles, but about the ability of the characters to solve them, and their reasons for challenging these high stakes puzzles.

Through much of this I did wonder where the budget for the POG came from, because it was seemingly infinite (it wouldn't be much of an understatement to say they must have had billions of £s), and there were other things I wondered about that didn't make much sense with the setting, but these were minor details, and in the end, unimportant. For a series as silly as this, I thought to myself that I shouldn't concern myself with them.

The characters grew on me, Gammon, who used to be the most annoying character ever, grew on me a lot, and became my favourite character, he was still quite loud and obnoxious, but he grew as a character slightly, and the show bothered to fill us in with his circumstances and back story.

It's a solid 4 from me, the story was surprisingly good towards the end, though the reason for Gammon joining the POG were never clear, or his actions after he joined seemed to conflict with his reasons for joining. I quite enjoyed it, and will go on watching it next week. I don't really know what to expect, because they wrapped up this season in a way where I would never have thought they would have needed, or even wanted a second season. Oh well.

Average of the season so far: 4.9, just Mirai Nikki and Symphogear to go.

Second Series

1:

So, it's the second season, and although there hasn't even been a break between the seasons, they are different. The OP and ED are both good, and the animation is better, though I imagine this is because it's the first episode. The puzzle was shown to us, and an explanation to how Kaito solved it was given, which goes against all I've know in Phi Brain. It was a good puzzle actually, it was a set up that was easy to understand, but it was complex.

The only issues I have are 1) How they construct an entire building overnight, 2) Where they get the money from to build it, 3) Kaito's habit of pulling a face whenever he declares it's puzzle time.

Truth be told, this episode has got me interested in this series. I even look forward to it. If I were to look at it critically I wouldn't like it near as much, but I'm in this one to try and enjoy it.

So Gammon gets angry because the group tried to use the armlet on her and experiment with her. Fair enough, his decline into anger was reasonable, and was certainly better than the last series where he defected because of negative emotions. I like how it all got resolved quickly as well, in something harking back to the 2nd episode of the first series.

So the battle puzzles are back, and this one actually looks pretty good, it's visually simple but has quite a bit of strategy to it. The animation has sunk again, but I've been expecting that, and I'm used to it now. Phi Brain continues to grow on me, so even though it isn't that good, I'm getting an increasing amount of enjoyment out of it.

Aww man, I'm hating this show already on so many levels. It's Yu Gi Oh with a hint of Air Gear, a slap of SKET Dance and a pinch of everything shounen. I can see the character archetypes already: the protagonist's the cool-obsessed and angtsy dude, his sidekick is the tomboyish flower pot, and everyone else who will be introduced in the show would likely belong to some kind of archetype.

...

this is definitely true but I like it nevertheless. the tomboyish flower pot is great and I really love it because I love everything that has something to do with flowers. I think I will now go and get some fresh flowers at serenata and then watch Phi Brain.

So, is Flucas a spam bot? Seems more advanced than ones I've seen previously, and it didn't even advertise until it's 4th post. Technology has come a long way hasn't it?

You know, I feel sorry for Gammon. Whilst Kaito was useless because he was falling for stupid mind games about him killing someone's mother when he was a child, Gammon was taking up the slack and stopping the other side from winning. Then, when Kaito gets over the mind games, and wins, everyone is in amazement at Kaito, not Gammon, who did almost everything, but Kaito. This series suffers to much from the "we all love the protagonist, he's so cool/clever" trope that plagued Last Exile: Fam among others.

As for the puzzle, we could see almost everything that was going on, but we couldn't hear the thoughts of any of the participants (excluding one instance where Gammon thinks about how they'll lose unless Kaito moved to a particular spot), which made it a tad underwhelming.

Also, the drama for this arc was a bit shit really, I wasn't sold on Kaito's lack of confidence of Freecell's mummy problems. I want them to focus more the romance some time in the future.

Oh wait, what's this, a Beach Episode!! Wow, I'm surprised, no really, I actually didn't see that coming.

I'll give it a 4 like the last one, my feelings for the series are much the same as the last one.

This is like the series that doesn't end, but it feels like almost no one watches.  Or at least no one talks about it.
