One of the more bizarre episodes so far. We finally get to learn about Celty and her backstory. I don't know if I wanted to know about her this early; I think it may have been better to keep viewers guessing for a while. I feel that this show (so far, but too early to tell) likes to go in cycles--- one episode of action, one episode of introspection. I like the changing pace, and it allows the characters to develop to their fullest.

Does anyone other than me think that the chick with the neck scar could possibly be the headless rider? 3: I don't know if that neck-scarred girl is the Headless Rider; from the way the episode goes, she seems to have an alibi wherever she goes. Anyway, I like the (near) showdown between Izaya and Shizuo. Maybe the even cooler guy is, like you said, Simon himself. And may I say that SHIZUO IS THE NEW LADD RUSSO! I just hope he starts killing people.

Sorry for the double-post.

There's a sudden change of pace in this episode, but I'm not that surprised at how bizarre it has become; just by looking at how the show began, it's quite evident that Durarara!! isn't a logical series. I think it's good that Selty's nature is explained early; if the explanation is held for a later time, viewers may lose interest in her early. Plus, it gives more time to focus on other characters and their agendas.
I just think she's hawt, headless or not.

I just think she's hawt, headless or not. I'm fairly sure that was the point. The thing about myths and legends, when talking about the fantastic such as fairies or demons or Gods, is that the creatures depicted are often impossible for us to understand on the same level. They're often depicted as ethereal beings with morality that is completely different from our own, and often an extremely whimsical or patriarchal nature. Selty is an attempt to give us a fantastic character without the fantasy. Sure, she's headless, has powers we don't, and she's a metaphysical being we don't understand fully, but episode four allowed us to peer into the fantastic and see something much more tangible. She's confused and naive, and, thus, vulnerable. That she has human qualities makes her a sympathetic character. It would only stand to reason that we would start seeing other humanistic qualities in her... like hotness. At first, we don't really understand Shinra's attraction to the Dullahan, but after the episode is over we can understand it and even start rooting for the doofus. And in episode 5, we find out she's scared of aliens. Yep. A supernatural being is afraid of extraterrestrials. I laughed. BTW, episode 5 gives us a long look into Kida. I didn't have him pegged as the "experienced" type, but he's a guy who is really trying to get away from his previous life, and he needs Mikado to do it.

I really like how this show develops its characters. It's not preachy, melodramatic or tacked on. The director does a good job making a spectacle out of everything which makes this very interesting to watch.

So... who ARE the Dollars, anyways? (My guess is the production staff. I mean, it even says it in the credits. :V)
I didn't think it was possible, but I think this show is even more confusing than Baccano. Not that it's hard to follow, but I still can't really see the dots connecting yet.
Also, I should probably stop making comparisons to Baccano, as it will most likely cloud my judgment later.

I don't know if anyone( or myself for the matter) took me seriously but I'm retracting my 'calling dibs' on Durarara in any case. Cheers.

Shizuo, Izaya and Shinra in high school is the weirdest thing I have seen all week. A part of me wants a spin-off with those three that is basically your run-of-the-mill high school series (with cultural festivals, beach episodes and the works) except with Shizuo and Izaya ruining everything with their constant life-or-death battles.

I'd watch that. I think the narrative style is quite different from Baccano. We understand most of the characters in Baccano through their actions and look at the reasons in afterthought, while Durarara is trying to dig into the motivations of each character and then set up the action. I think it's easy to say "screw the plot, I'm just gonna watch the action" for Baccano, but that's not true for Durarara. That doesn't stop the fact that we watch this series for the crazy shenanigans. I'm kinda hoping the stuff Shizuo throws in the future can top the insanity in Baccano. So far, sign posts and trash cans aren't impressive enough.

8: Another slow-paced episode. We get some answers in this one regarding Celty's background... can't say I was terribly surprised to find out that This begs the question... who's head is in the jar? Also, I wonder why Anri is so cold to Mikado. I think there's a deeper reason for it other than her shyness.

The OP kind of gave that away considering she is the only one who did not have her name listed.

I have great hopes for this admin, but sadly I have to say that I don't know what to expect in term of quality.
I could compare Durarara!! to a roller coaster ride. One episode would be very awesome, while the next one would be lame. The thing is, I don't how they are going to pull off a good story with 24 episodes(twice as long as Baccano!)I'm actually at episode 5 completed, and I just hope to get something out of it.
I have no complaint for the sound. The opening is catchy and the ending is even catchier. Seiyuu are top notch, no doubt about that. Except for the obvious "Russian-Language Massacre" of course.
