What's this?

I was browsing through the memberlist (like you do) and noticed a green box entitled Reputation and something about me going down a distinguished road.

So what is this Reputation?

It's kinda like a karma thing. the more points you get, the more people around here like you. It's kinda like how respected you are around these parts...

Or something...

I may give you a point.

So is there like different levels of karma/reputation you can get depending on the points you have.

That's a cool idea!!, i like as it is unique.

If someone likes something you said, or if you pissed someone off, or if they just choose to they can give you a bump one way or the other.  I think everyone's starts at 10 by default.  It will go up or down depending on how many people "judge" you and in which direction.  It goes on a post by post basis for the most part.

Let me tell you right now that this system will not work as the forum gets bigger. So make sure you have back up plans as you will eventually be tossing the system out of the window.

This is quite simple to explain. The larger a forum, the more members. The more members, the more opinions. The karma system can get out of control and people will be giving negative points to those they hate (mostly moderates for deleting their newb threads) and giving positive points to those they like (mostly their "allies" a.k.a other ****-tards).

And if you read between the lines, you will get the implication that such a system will lead to disaster in that all the people who DO behave accordingly have an ugly record while those that DON'T have "positive karma". In the end, while the karma system's goal is to give readers and those who are not familiar with certain members an idea of what they are like, the flood of retards who abuse the system will make things worse, turning the system into something that everyone who know the forums well will ignore. If it's ignored, why even have it?

I've heard some discussion on this similar system on AA, where they had attempted a few years back and found the above results. This is only a warning of what's to come. If you want to, just sit back, and watch it come true. I'm just saying that it's easier to delete it now when activity is extremely minimal.

Only the button to find it is extrememly difficult to find. Your reputation goes up by one point per post, and you can only add/subtract one reputation point from 1 person every 24 hours.

Meh, lets just see how it goes.

I'm giving Tama -1 point for having a stick in his rear.
