The Most Bullshit Email You've Ever Gotten
« on: August 20, 2005, 10:54:01 AM »
I bought a pre-played FFIX. I had it for almost three weeks now. Thankfully, I have friends who have the actual game without all the god damn scratches.

I got an email in response to my complaint at EBgames.com. Here is the full thing:

"Hello Max,

Thank you for contacting EBgames.com. All pre-played products are
checked for quality. If necessary products are processed in our
Refurbishment Center where technicians inspect each game. Disks are
inspected, resurfaced to remove scratches and placed in jewel cases.
Cartridges are cleaned and re-packaged. The EBgames.com Return Policy
backs each pre-played game.

EBgames.com is committed to your total satisfaction. If your pre-played
purchase does not meet your expectations then it may be returned to us
for a replacement. Defective merchandise must be returned within 30 days
of purchase and in the same condition and packaging as when purchased.
Please see the reverse side of your shipping invoice for return/exchange
instructions.  Prepaid envelopes are available upon request.

Best Regards,
Nina
EBgames.com"

THINGS TO NOTICE:
- THIS IS AN AUTOMATED MESSAGE!!!!! Where is are the "people" that actually do the "serving" for their "customers"?!!! MINUS TEN.
- If technicians really did inspect the games...THEN WHY DID MINE BREAK?!! So what's this "inspection"? Ten minutes into the game? A glance at the scratches? That's a real inspection, all right.
- YOU CANNOT remove scratches. I am not an idiot.
- 30 days? Wow, thanks. It takes people that long to get HALFWAY THROUGH THE GAME, and THEN, find out that it doesn't work.
- Prepaid envelopes will take AT LEAST a week to get to me, just like how long it took for me to get the damn game through Media Mail.

I'm never buying a pre-played game EVER again, and ESPECIALLY not from EBgames.

This was my original complaint:

"I ordered a pre-played game (Final Fantasy IX), and have played it for
about three weeks now. But on the second disc, just after entering the
Iifa Tree, the screen stays black, but the music still plays. Obviously,
my system is having a problem reading the disc. I tried several
different cleaning methods but none of them worked. It was clear that
the disc was a defect, owning to all the scratches on it (this makes it
apparent that the original owner had little regard for its condition).
This also raises the question of whether or not EBGames even checks the
condition of these beat-up pre-played games. I spent some good money for
my pre-played game, and I want some justice here. The game is GUARANTEED
to work, right?"

I say, walk into the store, toss the game and receipt on the counter, jump up on the counter, and proceed to mushroom-slap the clerk until he gives you a new one.

It was an online order. Online and offline EBgames orders have no affiliation.

This is America, and as ****ed up as America is right now, you can easily sue them.  Either deal with it or sue their asses (which would require a lot more money and time, but has the potential to pay off big).  That's my two-cents anyways.

I'm not such a low-life that I would sue over $20, though I definitely would if I had lost more money (somewhere in the hundreds would have to do). It's just $20, but I learned a good lesson: Never buy from EBgames.com. They just lost one potentially faithful customer.
