Both of the anime reviewed today feature a couple of rather vindictive girls in prominent roles, arguably to each of their detriments.  Elineas has reviewed Bungaku Shoujo and has a glowing opinion of it, counter to my own.  Recognizing some of the flaws in the script, he reasonably argues that the character interactions and more subtle themes lift the movie above its other shortcomings, one of the more noticeable being, in my opinion, possibly the most unlikable character of recent anime.  Ascaloth has also given his take on an anime that has come fresh off the frying pan: Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai (or, as I prefer to call it, Ore no Imouto, because that’s much less of a mouthful). This is an anime featuring numerous girls with limited charm, not least of which include its controversial, but also highly popular female lead, Kirino.
