Happy New Years everyone! Now that we have gone through 2012 without any Earth shattering cataclysm, I hope we can shelf any mention of the Mayans and their calendar for the rest of eternity. Just in case mankind survived, we at the Nihon Review prepared another Year in Review to look back at the best of 2012. So, here’s to a year where prophecies of imminent doom remain with the crazies in the streets instead of flooding my social network accounts.
The sheer anticipation and expectation I have for this list is just simply immense in terms of proportion. Can’t believe the list finally came out. *school girl giggle*
I find it strange how people forgot Kokoro Connect so much. It was one of my favourites of the year (top 5 I think, Hunter x Hunter which I started watching due to Shinmaru might displace it but for now it’s there). I thought people here liked it too, but not even a mention?
Come to think about it, I remember thinking back in the early months that it would be a pretty poor year, and it sort of was, the two cour shows carrying on from last season are getting 2013 off to a good start though.

We definitely discussed Kokoro Connect as a potential nominee for the list, but in the end few people wanted to back it with such a large collection of viable candidates this year. We couldn’t even include hugely popular series like SAO simply because it’s sort of wrong to leave it out of last year’s highlights. I do think one reason why KokoroCo didn’t get much recognition at the end of the year was because it simply didn’t stand up to the rest of the good series around, not so much because it was bad per se.
